Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas
Volunteer Legal Services (VLS) has been helping low-income individuals seeking legal help since 1981. They provide services such as legal advice clinics and individual representation by volunteer attorneys, and they often partner with local law firms for family law cases including divorce and child custody.
In 2011, VLS provided services to over 5,500 individuals for more than $4.9 million worth of legal help. The financial benefits toward the clients totaled over $3.6 million.

Lone Star Legal Aid
With services in over 72 counties in Texas, including Austin County, Lone Star Legal Aid is the fourth largest provider of free legal aid in the country. The organization focuses its resources on issues pertaining to preserving housing, improving outcomes for children, assisting the disabled or elderly, and much more.

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc.
Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is the largest legal aid provider in Texas. With more than 60 counties, including Austin, in its service area, TRLA provides services in real estate, civil rights, environmental justice, and labor and employment, among others.

Lawyer Referral Service: LegalLine – Free Legal Advice Hotline
Call 512-472-8303 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month for LegalLine, the free legal advice hotline that answers legal questions over the telephone. Sponsored by the Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas, LegalLine is staffed by attorney volunteers who answer legal questions and give brief legal advice.
Volunteer Legal Services: Free Legal Clinics
VLS holds free general legal advice and intake clinics on Monday and Wednesday evenings at local middle schools. and also offers specialty advice clinics for specific legal topics such as special education and HIV/AIDS. Attorneys, interpreters, and others volunteer their time at these clinics to give brief advice to people with civil legal problems. Many attendees are then referred to VLS for further legal assistance, depending on the merits of their case and income eligibility.

Texas Advocacy Project
Texas Advocacy Project is a nonprofit organization working directly with victims, shelters, law enforcement agencies, and courts across Texas to deliver effective legal services to Texans in need. Texas Advocacy Project provides free legal services statewide to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. They offer free legal advice hotlines for victims and several programs that protect victims from their abusers.
Austin Bar Association: Veterans Free Legal Advice Clinic
The next clinic will be Monday, Sept. 9, 2013.
The Austin Bar Association organizes a free legal advice clinic once a month at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic (new facility), 7901 Metropolis Drive, Austin, Texas 78741, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., for all U.S. Veterans.
There is no appointment necessary; please sign-in by 3:30 p.m. Sign-in starts at 1:00 p.m. Attorney volunteers will provide brief, legal advice (15-20 minutes). Please bring any paperwork that is relevant to your case. If you are seeking veteran’s benefits or a discharge upgrade, please bring a copy of your DD214 and any evidence related to your claim.
